A little history on the wig

The wig indicated social rank according to its complexity (bourgeoisie and nobility).

The poor could not afford it because it needed rice powder to hold the curls and prevent the hair from greasing too quickly. The rice powder was mainly used to give the wig its pure white

As it was the quintessential hallmark of Ancien Régime society, the Revolution put an end to the wearing of the wig, which denounced the membership of the aristocracy of its owner.
